I will transcribe archival and manuscript documents

I work with archival documents and manuscripts from 1500 onwards, including letters, wills, inventories, petitions, court records, marginalia, and related materials.

English; Latin; French; Spanish; Italian; Russian Please note: I only work with manuscripts created after 1500. I do not currently offer transcription of medieval or pre-1500 materials.

You’ll receive a clean, typed transcription in Word format. If anything in the original text is unclear or damaged, I’ll flag it clearly in the document.

If sections of the document are illegible, torn, or faded, I will flag them clearly in the transcription using standard conventions (e.g. [illegible], [unclear word], or suggested readings in brackets).

By default, I provide a diplomatic transcription — a faithful representation of the original spelling and punctuation. If you would like a modernised version, please request this when ordering.

This service is focused on transcription, not translation.
