About This Gig

Do you have a story you'd like to self-publish? Are you about to start shopping your magnum opus around literary agents? Is there a magazine you'd like to see your work published in?

Whatever you want to do with your writing, you want it to be the best it can be – spelling and grammatical mistakes, continuity errors and internal consistencies, and poorly-structured sentences can be incredibly jarring, and turn even the best written work into a slog for the reader.

Proofreading – having another person go over your work for spelling and grammatical errors – is a relatively simple way to achieve peace of mind for your writing. I have several hundred hours' experience of proofing published works in a variety of genres – from sci-fi to romance to fictionalised autobiographies and textbooks – and working with writers of all abilities. Whatever the story, I take the utmost care and pride in making sure your words reach your audience in the best shape possible.

NOTE: I do not offer line-editing or copy-editing services as part of this gig.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why do your gigs have such a long delivery time?
My timeframes are based on the assumption of each manuscript requiring a certain amount of work, including the three revisions that come as part of each package. If it doesn't require a lot of work, your manuscript could be returned early (for which there would be no extra charge).
  • What programmes do you use to proofread?
My preferred platform is Google Docs, as I find this allows for easier communication with clients than Word programmes; I am, however, happy to use Word if individual clients prefer.
  • Can I get a copy of my manuscript that shows what changes you've made as well as an edited copy?
Yes! Just check the option under 'pricing'.
  • My manuscript only needs a quick spruce-up. Any chance of a discount?
No, sorry! I don't know how much work your manuscript needs until I look at it. If you don't think the work required justifies the price, ask a friend to have a look over it for you.
