I am a dedicated mother who loves her child. If you are a good parent, you are an amazing person. I just want to tell you so should you ever doubt it.
My son and I have a close relationship, but it wasn’t always that way. In fact, it took years—and lots of therapy—to get to this point. My parenting experience has truly been a parenting decathlon with events in kinship care, being a foster parent, being an adoptive parent, being a special needs parent, acting as parent advocate and more. None of it is easy, but each stage won has brought me ever closer to the ultimate victory–one day having raised an intelligent, compassionate adult who is unafraid to try new things.
Yet before children bring us to the victory stage, there are plenty of moments when they make us want to pull our hair out. Sometimes all we need as parents is for someone to recognize the effort and energy we put into our children and reassure us that we are doing a good job.
PLEASE NOTE: I am not a therapist. I cannot provide clinical guidance on issues you may be having with your child. If you are having any severe issues, including depression, please consult a professional. I did, and it did help.
