My approach to mixing and mastering is to let the intention of the artist come through clearly.. I will often engage with the creator and send a few different mixes before finalizing the project,,
I use a combination of digital and analog processors with Digital Performer for the most of the work along with external hardware including an MPC1000, KlarkTeknic compressors, DBX 386 Tube Preamp. All external audio uses spdif digital connections to avoid multiple conversions.
There is a noticible difference when combining the best of analogue with the precision of digital. Using two recording systems to record into each other also captures audio at a higher signal to noise ratio and dynamics then what is often possible internally. I also use commercial grade speakers and equalizer for greater attention to detail. The results speak for themselves.
I always send examples of my progress to stay on track and avoid the take it or leave it approach as much as possible. If at anytime you don't like what you hear you can cancel or walk away without hassle. ill do my best to make sure that won't happen.
