While reading fiction, I look for a few things:
- Things that immerse me into the story. These help me to maintain suspension of disbelief.
- Things that take me out of the story. These prevent me from becoming immersed as I read.
- Things I loved. What got me excited about your story?
- Things that didn't work for me subjectively.
As your beta reader, I strive to provide you with both positive & constructive feedback. I aim to highlight elements that are already fantastic as well as parts that may benefit from further tinkering.
I encourage you to include specific questions for me to address in the reader report. Are you worried the plot development on page x is too predictable, or that the main character comes off as unlikeable or uncompelling? Please let me know.
While reading, I'll be asking myself questions like:
- Are the characters compelling and believable?
- Does the dialogue sound natural?
- Are there plot holes or other inconsistencies?
- Is the conclusion satisfying?
From this process, I'll develop feedback based on what did and didn't work for me using concrete examples from your story.

What genres do you beta read?
I enjoy and have experience beta reading sci-fi/speculative, fantasy, mystery/thriller, satire/comedy, romance and erotica (straight and LGBTQ), and historical fiction.
Are there any kinds of content you won't beta read?
I won't read content containing rape, incest, pedophilia (all participants must be over 18), or bestiality (or any other types of animal abuse, for that matter). I also do not read stories with excessive and graphic violence, particularly when it's quite bloody.
Will you beta read content with queer/LGBTQ+ content or characters?
Absolutely! I enjoy reading stories with queer/LGBTQ+ characters.
Will you beta read an incomplete manuscript?
Yes, just let me know that when you make an order so I can take that into account as I'm reading and preparing feedback.

Do you read manuscripts over 30K words?
Yes, message me with your story's word count and I'll prep and send you a custom order. I may ask to review a sample of your work before committing to a very large project.
What professional qualifications do you hold?
I completed my copyediting certificate through UC San Diego in 2021. I'm also currently enrolled in the Editorial Freelancers Association's Fiction Copyediting course. I have a keen, almost obsessive eye for detail. I completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology from CSU Sacramento in 2008.
What happens to my manuscript after my order is complete?
I delete the manuscript file and clear it from my recycling bin immediately. Your work is never shared with a third party.
Is this service confidential?
Absolutely. All work submitted is edited by me personally and is never shared with any other parties. I am happy to follow any other security measures required, such as signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
