OK I myself have lost and got back many objects.
- The #1 thing is to bother to go back and. Most people are good people, they are not likely to run away with your stuff
(street cleaners might not recognise it has value and toss it in the trash.)
#2 thing is preparation
a) - if you want to get back an object, then make sure it has your email or phone number on it
b) - The everything has it's place rule. Instead of just stuffing stuff away, always keep an object in the same place. That way you'll notice before you move on it's missing. e.g if in your bag you always have a pattern : put your socks in your boots, put your boots in your bag, then your soap bag on top, then your towel, cos it now fits like a jigsaw then you don't lose stuff.
e.g. my coins are in a plastic box, in pocket of my bag.
#3. If you can't afford to lose an object then leave it home.
#4. Valuables like passports and wallets should NEVER be in a bag. They should be in a money belt touching your skin, so your are 100% sure where they are.
#5 Small easy to lose things so keys should be attached to bigger things.
