Why would your nonprofit’s press release be read and distributed when it is just one of thousands sent out to the media? It has to pique the reader’s immediate curiosity so they will read it and run it. Emotion is what causes people to take action, not just facts and figures.
I have been telling stories for 20 years as a Writer, PR Rep, and Video Producer in the nonprofit world. Sending out newsworthy press releases will keep your organization vital and visible and not just when you have a fundraising event coming up.
Consider sending press releases out when you:
· Have expertise on a topic in the news
· Serve a unique population in the news
· A staff member is speaking at a conference
· Get a big donation or grant
· Send volunteers out to help in a crisis
· Develop a new program
It’s all about what makes your nonprofit stand out in the crowd! I can’t guarantee that a press release will be picked up and distributed, but I will give it 100% of my time and talents.
