Is there something about your child's behavior that seems out of balance? You have tried all the variations of your reward - punishment methods and none of them seem to work? This may be the moment to call for the healing ray of a story. The therapeutic approach will give the child a nudge to change its behavior from the inside, using metaphoric images that become theirs. It is a much longer - lasting and more effective way than forcing a child to fit the standards. Stories are gentle. Their voice is friendly. They respect the child's experience and they affirm his will and capacity to grow. My role here is to serve as a (thoughtful) medium, using feeling to allow the story to happen naturally and work in all of its mysterious ways. Storytelling is back in fashion. A growing number of parents, caregivers and teachers are recognizing the fact that reading aloud can develop and strengthen the child's ability to focus, as well as activate his imagination. It can have a healing effect for today's children who spend too much time passively, watching TV programs and movies that impose fixed images, rather than stimulate an inventive process of creating internal images.
