FAQ
Does this gig includes Mixing?
This gig does not include mixing, it is for mastering only. All mixing and revising should be finalized by either yourself or the producer/engineer you are working with before you place the order.
What is Mastering?
Mastering is the final piece of the production chain. It is about critical listening, and then making changes needed to improve, correct flaws, and insure your music reaches its fullest potential. It makes a track shine and gets your release to the right loudness levels.
What is Apple Digital Masters (formerly MFiT - Mastered for iTunes)?
With Apple Digital Masters, Apple has improved the quality of streaming and downloads. As formats change and available bandwidth increases, Apple may offer even higher resolution, better sounding streams and downloads, and I can insure your music meets the standards for the ADM program.
What levels should the mixes be that you send?
Ideally, it's great to have some headroom, but as long as your mix stays BELOW 0dBFS I can work with it. It's great when a mix has at least 3dB to 6dB of headroom for me to work with, but again, as long as you don't allow peak levels to reach 0 dBFS without limiter, you're good.
Is it okay to leave mix buss processing on?
If possible, remove peak-limiters or similar plugins on your main buss that prevent peaks that would reach or clip 0 dBFS by creating a hard ceiling at or below 0 dBFS. However, feel is a far more important factor than following any technical "rule." Send me your mix the way it sounds best to you.
What outboard gear do you use?
I monitor on Barfoot Fotprint1 speakers, and Audeze and Beyerdynamic headphones. DACs, amps and processors include Universal Audio, SSL, API, Avalon, Masselec, Chandler, Weiss, Tegeler Audio, Prism Audio and Louder than Liftoff.
