About this Gig
About This Gig
You have a CNC part design or a 3D model, but youre not sure if its machinable, cost-effective, or ready for a supplier quote. I provide engineering-based CNC consultationnot just machining. I review your design from a machinists perspective and tell you exactly what to fix before you cut metal.
What I do:
- DFM Review for CNC: I analyze your 3D model or 2D drawing and flag features that will drive up cost or cause scrapped parts (deep pockets, sharp internal corners, unreasonable tolerances, hard-to-fixture geometry).
- Tolerance & Surface Finish Rationalization: Youll get honest feedback on where you can loosen tolerances or change finishes without hurting functionsaving real money per part.
- Material & Process Recommendation: Aluminum vs. steel vs. engineering plastics, 3-axis vs. 4/5-axis, turning vs. milling. I help you pick the right route before you request quotes.
- Supplier-Ready Feedback: I help you prepare a clean RFQ package so machine shops quote faster and more accurately, reducing back-and-forth.
Who this is for:
- Product designers and mechanical engineers who need a second pair of eyes before releasing to a shop.
- Startups and sourcing managers comparing quote

FAQ
Q: Can you machine the parts for me directly?
A: No. This GIG is strictly a consultancy service and does not involve physical production or logistics. I will help you modify the design to make it suitable for machining, after which you will need to find a local or online CNC supplier to carry out the work.
Q: I only have 2D PDF drawings and no 3D models. Is that OK?
A: Yes, that’s fine. PDF, DWG and DXF files are all acceptable, but please specify the key dimensions and tolerance requirements in your message. If you are sending a hand-drawn sketch, please let me know in advance so that I can assess its legibility.
Q: Will you tell me which material to use?
A: I will provide a range of recommendations based on functionality, production volume and cost (for example, ‘6061 aluminium is suitable for prototypes; for mass production, consider 7075 or die-cast zinc alloy’), but I do not carry out material certification or strength simulations.
Q: What format will the deliverables be in?
A: A PDF report plus annotated screenshots. The Standard package and above include a clear list of issues and a priority ranking for modifications.
