About this Gig
I sub-edit for a university press office and hold an MA in English literature with a postgraduate diploma in linguistics. Most days I'm editing other people's academic prose. That's the eye I bring to your statement.
What I do
- Read the whole draft before touching a word, then tell you what your statement is actually arguing which is often not what you thought it was
- Restructure, so your strongest material isn't buried on page two
- Line edit for clarity and rhythm, in your voice rather than mine
- Leave margin comments explaining every change, so you can push back on any of them
- I work on Common App essays, SOPs, personal statements and scholarship essays undergraduate through PhD, plus law, medicine and MBA.
What I don't do
Write it for you, or rewrite an AI draft so it reads as yours. Send me your rough notes instead. It costs less, and the finished statement sounds like a person.

Will it still sound like me?
That's the point of the exercise. I edit towards what you were already trying to say rather than replacing your voice with mine, and every substantive change comes with a comment so you can see why and reject it.
My draft was written using an AI. Can you work on it?
You may refer to the gig extra if your draft is written using an AI.
Can you write my statement from scratch?
No. I edit. But you need less than you think to start — a page of unpolished notes about why you want the place is enough for me to work with, and it will cost you less than a full draft would.
What if my draft is longer than the package word count?
Set the word count in the gig options and the price adjusts automatically. Additional words are $10 per 250. If you're unsure, message me the total and I'll confirm before you order.
How quickly can you turn it around?
Five days on Basic, three on Standard, two on Premium, or add the 1-day rush option. I'm in Pakistan, so if you message overnight your time you'll usually have a reply by the time you wake up.
What do you need from me to start?
The programme and university, the word limit, your deadline, and your draft or notes. There's a form when you order that asks for all four.
Can you rewrite an AI-generated draft?
Yes, as a paid extra, but tell me before you order. It is slow, hands on work and is charged at the full rate. If you have your own rough notes instead, send those. It costs you less and the result is better.
