FAQ
Do I need a VPS?
Not required, but recommended. Any Ubuntu/Debian VPS works - Hetzner or Contabo from about $4-6/month, DigitalOcean, or Hostinger. I can also install on your own PC or server, and on Windows via WSL2.
Do I need my own AI API key?
Yes. OpenClaw itself is free, the AI model is not. You create an account with Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, DeepSeek or OpenRouter and keep the key on your server. You pay the provider directly.
Which messengers can you connect?
Telegram is fully set up and tested, including voice notes and scheduled messages. WhatsApp, Discord or Slack - only where the plugin works reliably on your server. Ask me first and I will tell you honestly before you order.
Can you fix my existing broken setup?
Yes. Bot online but not replying, wrong or duplicated bot token, two instances stealing messages, provider key or credit errors, settings lost after the rename - send me the error text and I will tell you what it is before you order, then choose the fix extra.
What happens if something breaks later?
Every package includes written text support: Basic 7 days, Standard 14 days, Premium 30 days. I answer in writing, usually within a few hours.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything runs on your server with your own keys. I need temporary access only to install and configure, and I do not keep copies of tokens or chats.
How much will the AI model cost me per month?
A light personal setup usually runs $5-20 per month with DeepSeek, Gemini Flash, Kimi, Qwen or OpenRouter free tiers; heavy automation costs more. I set spend caps, tune the heartbeat and route background tasks to cheap or local models so the bill stays predictable.
Why do you use Telegram and not WhatsApp?
Telegram has an official bot API: free, 3 minutes to set up, zero ban risk. WhatsApp automation breaks their terms and numbers do get banned, so I do not use it as the main channel. If you need WhatsApp, ask me first and I will explain the honest risk.
Do I need a Mac Mini or a powerful PC?
No. OpenClaw runs on any Ubuntu or Debian server. A small VPS from about $4-6/month (Hetzner, Contabo, DigitalOcean) is enough for a personal assistant. A Mac Mini only makes sense if you want it running at home on your own hardware.
What do you need from me to start?
Server access (IP + SSH), a Telegram bot token from BotFather, and an API key from your AI provider. If you have no server yet, tell me where you plan to host and I will tell you what to order before you buy anything.
