FAQ
What is developmental editing?
Developmental editing focuses on the big-picture elements of your manuscript, including plot, story structure, pacing, character development, dialogue, point of view, world-building, and overall reader engagement. It helps strengthen your story before line editing, copy editing, or proofreading.
What genres do you edit?
I edit fiction and selected nonfiction, including romance, fantasy, mystery, thriller, science fiction, young adult, middle grade, memoir, Christian books, children's books, fanfiction, and literary fiction.
Do you edit completed manuscripts only?
No. I can review completed manuscripts, partially finished novels, or works in progress. If your story needs direction before completion, developmental editing can save significant revision time later.
Will you rewrite my book?
No. I preserve your unique writing voice. Instead of rewriting your manuscript, I provide detailed editorial feedback, suggestions, comments, and recommendations that help you improve your story while maintaining your style.
Is this the same as proofreading or copy editing?
No. Developmental editing comes first and focuses on the overall story. Proofreading and copy editing focus on grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence-level corrections after the manuscript's structure is finalized.
Can you help prepare my book for Amazon KDP?
Yes. I can identify story issues before publication and provide recommendations that help you prepare your manuscript for self-publishing on Amazon KDP or other publishing platforms.
