I will deliver a precise developmental diagnostic of your novel
Developmental Editor
About this Gig
If you're not sure why your manuscript isn't working yet, this is the place to start.
I will read up to 5,000 words and return a focused diagnostic that identifies the core issues affecting your story across six structural axes:
- Narrative engine: what's pulling the reader forward (or not)
- Opening effectiveness: hook, orientation, stakes
- Character motivation: are decisions arising from character or plot necessity
- Scene utility: is each scene changing something?
- Information control: what's revealed, when, and why
- Voice & register: POV discipline and consistency
You receive: a prioritized fix list, specific observations tied to moments in your manuscript, and 1-2 rewritten sample passages showing stronger execution.
My process is designed to give you the kind of clarity that is typically only available through expensive developmental editing delivered in a way that is direct, readable, and immediately usable.
Add-ons: additional 5,000 words (+$25) · 48-hour delivery (+$10)

FAQ
How detailed is the report, really?
For the 5,000-word diagnostic, you receive a ~5 page report. Each section includes specific observations tied to moments in your manuscript and closes with a prioritized list of what to address first. The goal is that you finish reading it and immediately know what your next revision step is.
I only have 3,000 words written. Can I still reach out?
Yes. A partial manuscript can still reveal a great deal. I will evaluates what's present: your opening hook, narrative momentum, POV discipline, character motivation, and the structural signals your opening chapters are sending. Early-stage feedback is often more valuable than later feedback.
What if I disagree with your assessment?
I'm offering a structural reading, not a verdict. The report explains the reasoning behind every observation, so you can evaluate it on its merits. Some writers find that disagreeing with specific points is itself clarifying, which is useful even if you don't implement every recommendation.
Will you rewrite my manuscript?
No, and that's by design. The diagnostic may include rewritten sample passages to demonstrate what stronger execution looks like, but the goal is to give you a precise framework for revision and the clarity to implement it yourself.
How is this different from beta reading?
Beta reading gives you impressions. This gives you a structural diagnosis. A beta reader tells you what they felt; I tell you why your narrative is producing those feelings and what to change. You leave with a prioritized revision plan, not a list of reactions.
