As long as I can remember, I have loved playing chess. I enjoyed competing in tournaments from an early age, but it quickly became clear that I was not the most talented kid in the chess hall. I finished my first two Slovenian Youth Championships in the bottom third of the field.

Instead of giving up, I started working on my chess systematically. I improved every aspect of my game, and the results followed. At 16, I finished second in the Slovenian Youth Championship and represented Slovenia at the World Youth U16 Chess Olympiad in Chongqing, China. A year later, I became Slovenian Youth Champion.

My peak FIDE standard rating is 2268, and throughout my career I have defeated several Grandmasters in classical chess.

Because my own progress came primarily through structured work rather than pure talent, I understand very well the challenges that ambitious young players face. I know what it takes to progress from local club level to competing successfully at national level.

I also bring that experience into my coaching. One of my students became Slovenian U14 national champion with a perfect score of 7 wins from 7 games.
