Built an end-to-end AI-powered knowledge retrieval platform for 61 California county Environmental Health Department websites. Developed a resilient web scraper capable of handling Cloudflare-protected and JavaScript-heavy sites using Zyte API and Chrome DevTools Protocol fallbacks. Created a document processing pipeline that converts HTML and PDFs into structured Markdown with custom parsing, layout-aware text extraction, table detection, and VLM fallback for scanned documents. Implemented retrieval-optimized chunking with rich structural metadata, an incremental embedding pipeline into Vertex AI Vector Search, and a FastAPI-based RAG service that retrieves relevant content and generates citation-backed responses with Redis caching and conversational context. Deployed the platform on Google Cloud using Cloud Run Jobs for batch workloads and Cloud Run for the API, with Docker-based services, automated CI/CD pipelines, and 50+ tests to ensure reliable deployments, pipeline health, and system robustness.
