Spring Sale: 30% off until June 1st!Authentic Chiptune Music Using a Real GameBoy!
Hey there, I'm Giovanni. I'm a game composer from Vermont, US. With the help of a friend, I modified my GBA to play chiptune music!
- The GBA uses the same audio chip as the NES.
- It had four monophonic voices which can play sine, triangle, and square waves, as well as noise for drums.
- The synth is pure analog.
- I decided to keep the noise from the original amplifier inside the GameBoy, because it adds thickness to the sound.
- The GameBoy has a classic, retro sound perfect for a video game soundtrack.
Vintage Gear is Quirky:- The GBA's audio chip is the same one from the NES made in the 80's, so it has a really analog with a lot of character.
- It doesn't produce good bass on its own, but it's possible to mix a modern synth with it to create a rounder sound.
- There's some noise in the audio, but personally I like how the noise adds to the retro vibe.
I'm looking forward to working with you!
