Every Shopify app you pay for monthly is a rental. Some are worth it. Many are not.
I replaced three in my own store: returns, post purchase upsells, and purchasing. All three run in production today, and I stopped paying for all three.

How do I know it's worth replacing?
Send me the app and the plan you're on and I'll tell you before you order. Rough rule: if you pay over $50 a month, use a fraction of the features, and the job is well defined, replacing usually pays for itself within a year. Below that, often not.
What happens to my data in the old app?
Depends on the app. Most allow export, and the Premium package includes migrating it. Some lock data in, which I'll tell you before you order. We never cancel anything until the replacement is running and verified.
What if the replacement breaks after I cancel the app?
That's why Premium includes parallel-run testing, where both systems run side by side before you cancel anything. I also offer 30 days of support after cutover. I've done this switch in my own store several times and never lost a day of operations.
Are there ongoing costs?
Hosting, usually free tier or a few dollars a month, billed by the provider directly. Nothing recurring to me. That's the point of the gig.
Can you replace an app you've never used?
Usually yes. What matters is what the app does, not whether I've used it. If it does something genuinely complex, I'll tell you honestly rather than take the order and struggle.
