How do you make sure Claude Code does not break my production code?
I write a CLAUDE.md that constrains Claude to your specific stack, naming conventions, and architecture patterns. I run Claude in a separate branch only, never directly on main or production. Every change is reviewed before it commits.
What is CLAUDE.md and how does it affect the refactor?
CLAUDE.md is the project-level instruction file Claude reads at the start of every session. It defines your stack, your conventions, what Claude is and is not allowed to touch, how to run tests, and how to format commits.
Can you work on a private GitHub repository?
Yes. Share the repository via GitHub collaborator access, GitLab member access, or provide a private clone. I work inside the repository using Claude Code's native git integration.
What types of refactoring do you handle?
Dead code removal, function extraction and decomposition, type safety improvements, dependency updates, and security vulnerability fixes identified during the audit.
How do you handle a codebase with no tests?
For codebases without tests I run a read-only audit first to identify the highest-risk refactor areas, then make targeted changes to isolated functions or modules where the risk of regression is lowest.
How much of the repo do you need access to?
Read access to the full repo is required for scoping even if the build targets only a subset of it. Claude Code needs the full context of the project structure to generate refactors that respect your architecture.
Can you modernize PHP code to a modern framework?
Yes. I handle PHP 5 and PHP 7 procedural code modernization to PHP 8 OOP, and migration of legacy custom frameworks to Laravel. This is one of the most common refactor requests I receive. The CLAUDE.md for this type of project explicitly scopes Claude to the target framework patterns.
