Dark Fiction Editor: Horror, Thriller, Gothic, and Dark Romance
About this Gig
I edit horror, thriller, gothic, dark fantasy, dark romance, and true crime. I write horror myself in folk, supernatural, psychological, body, slasher, and survival subgenres, and I teach thriller and dark romance structure to new writers.
WHAT YOU GET:
A written editorial report on structure, pacing, tension, character agency, and the craft specific to your subgenre.
IF YOU CHOOSE THE ANNOTATED NOTES:
Every issue quotes the passage it refers to and offers a fix you can take or leave. Issues are ranked CRITICAL, MODERATE, or LIGHT so you know what is urgent and what is polish.
I do not rewrite your book. The voice on the page stays yours.
WHAT I CHECK THAT OTHERS SKIP:
Where your dread stops building and starts repeating. Whether your protagonist drives the scene or breaks it. Whether your violence earns its place. Whether your forensic detail matches your story timeline.
Premium includes an annotated manuscript, series development notes, and a 60-minute call. Annotation on Standard orders is available by request.
Message me your genre, word count, draft number, and a brief synopsis before ordering. I will confirm I am the right fit.

FAQ
Is there anything you will not edit?
If your book is a cozy romance, cozy mystery, or anything with no dark scenes, I am not the right editor, and I will say so before you pay. With dark fiction, no. Darkness is not a barrier. Send a content warning list with your manuscript so I know what is in the book before opening it.
What counts as dark fiction?
Dark fiction is where the dark material is load-bearing. Violence, dread, grief, cruelty, moral compromise, the ugly parts of real crime. Horror, thriller, gothic, dark fantasy, dark romance, true crime, noir, grimdark. If you are unsure, message me.
Do I need to tone anything down for you?
Absolutely not. Instead, tell me how dark you want to go. Splatterpunk and pitch-dark, where extremity is the point. Or dark fiction for a general readership, where you want dread without pushing the reader out.
Can I tell you what to focus on?
Yes, and you should. Tell me anything that you want me to focus on that you have the most difficulty with. I will still flag anything structural I find outside that scope.
Will you fix my grammar and line-level writing?
No. This covers structure, pacing, tension, and character. Line editing and proofreading are separate services and belong after this work, not before. Fixing sentences in a chapter you later cut is wasted money.
Do you use AI in your editing?
Absolutely not. I am a human editor who will be giving human notes. I will be reading your manuscript thoroughly.
My manuscript is longer than 90,000 words. What now?
Message me first, and I will quote it. Anything over 120,000 words, I take case by case, depending on what else is in my queue that month.
How should I send my manuscript?
One .docx file, uploaded through Fiverr. Standard manuscript format: single-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman, one-inch margins, page numbers, each chapter starting on a new page, including chapter headers/titles. Name the file with your title, author name and word count.
