Will amending my tax return increase my chances of an audit?
Not when it's properly prepared and documented. I include a complete explanation statement with every 1040X I file and the IRS expects this, and it's what protects you. A well-documented amendment simply gets processed. What draws attention is a hastily prepared amendment with no supporting document
How long will it take to get my refund after filing the amendment?
The IRS currently processes amended returns within 16–20 weeks. I'll provide you with the tracking information so you can check the status at irs.gov/whereismyamendedreturn at any point. If anything unusual comes up, message me, and we'll work through it together.
My return was prepared by a CPA. Can it still have errors?
Yes, it can. CPAs are often excellent tax preparers, but they may not have expertise in specific areas such as expat rules, home office calculations, rental depreciation, or certain credits. I've found legit errors in returns prepared by licensed CPAs.
