I lead Defy IT, a Brisbane managed service provider supporting around small and medium organisations across legal, healthcare, accounting, manufacturing and professional services. Many of our clients handle sensitive information every day, whether that's client files, patient records or financial data, so security sits at the centre of everything we do rather than being an add-on. When I took on the business, it needed a lot of work. Over four years I rebuilt it from the ground up, reshaping the service model, building a small and very high performance team and putting real care into client relationships. That experience taught me a lot about running technology in a way that genuinely supports a business rather than getting in its way, and it's a perspective I bring to every client conversation. I stay hands-on in the work itself. My focus areas include cybersecurity strategy and risk reviews, Microsoft 365 security and configuration, incident response, and helping organisations adopt AI tools in ways that are practical, safe and suited to how their people actually work. I also run the business side of things, which means I understand the pressures clients face around budgets, compliance and keeping their teams productive. My background spans 20 years in cybersecurity and IT, backed by a Master of Cyber Studies and Investigations and a Graduate Certificate in Cyber Security. I'm currently completing a Graduate Diploma in IT specialising in AI, which keeps me close to where the technology is heading. What I enjoy most is the people. I like getting to know how a client's organisation works, what worries them and what they're trying to achieve, then helping them get there with advice that's clear, honest and easy to act on. I'd much rather explain something properly than hide behind jargon, and I want every client to finish a conversation with me feeling more confident about their technology than when they started.
