I have worked with fiction authors as a beta reader and editor, helping them refine their manuscripts before publication. Most of the writers I worked with wanted honest feedback from the perspective of a real reader, someone who would point out where the story kept them hooked, where the pacing slowed, which characters felt believable, and where the emotional moments landed or fell short. Over time, I read manuscripts across genres including fantasy, romance, dark romantasy, mystery, thriller, and contemporary fiction. Every book taught me something different, and every author needed a different kind of feedback. Some wanted reassurance that their story was working. Others wanted someone who wouldn't hesitate to point out confusing scenes, inconsistent character choices, or places where readers might lose interest.
