FAQ
Do I need EV charger permit plans at all?
Plugging a Level 1 charger into an existing outlet usually needs no permit. A new 240V circuit or hardwired Level 2 charger usually does. Your city decides. Send your address and I’ll tell you what to ask them.
What do you need to size my EV charger circuit and breaker?
Send the charger make, model and amperage, plus a photo of your panel label showing the main breaker size. I size the circuit, breaker and wire from the charger spec sheet for your load calc and single line diagram.
My panel may be full. Can you check if it can carry the charger?
Yes. My load calc adds the EV charger at 125% continuous load to your existing panel load. If it doesn’t fit, I note options for your electrician to confirm, such as a panel upgrade or load management.
Is my charger plug-in (NEMA 14-50) or hardwired?
Tell me which. It changes the disconnect and protection notes on the electrical plan, so I confirm before drawing. Reviewers often ask this on EV charger permit plans.
The charger is far from my panel, outdoors or underground. Does that matter?
Yes. Send the distance and route (indoor, outdoor, trench or surface conduit). It affects wire size, voltage drop notes and the site plan, where I mark the meter, panel, charger and conduit route.
Can you do multiple chargers or a commercial or apartment site?
Yes, for [up to 4 chargers / your real limit]. Send the charger count and panel details. Larger commercial or DC fast charger projects are quoted separately, and I’ll tell you up front if one is outside my scope.
I’m adding solar or a battery. Can you include it?
Tell me first. Solar or a battery changes the load calc and single line diagram. I’ll confirm if I can include it in this plan or quote it as an add-on.
My city sent back comments on my EV charger plans. Can you fix them?
Yes. Send the comment letter and the current drawings. I revise the electrical plan, load calc, panel schedule and SLD, and mark each change so you can resubmit quickly.
