I've never had a chess lesson before - what should I expect?
Your first lesson is designed to understand your current level and goals. We'll usually review a few of your games, identify your strengths and biggest improvement areas, and discuss what you'd like to achieve in chess. From then lesson become tailored to what you need specifically.
I'm a beginner / My child is a beginner. Is that okay?
Beginners are more than welcome. Lessons are adapted to the student's current level. No prior chess experience is needed.
How do online chess lessons work?
Lessons are conducted via a Zoom video call. I'll share my screen, demonstrate ideas, and guide you through a variety of interactive activities. Every lesson is tailored to your level and goals, helping you stay engaged, motivated, and improving.
Will you tell me exactly what to study between lessons?
Yes. One goal of coaching is to help you spend your study time efficiently. I'll recommend specific activities and training exercises based on your needs.
Do I need a Chess.com or Lichess account?
Having an account is helpful, but if you don't have one yet, I can help you get set up before our lesson.
How long is each lesson?
Lessons are typically 1 hour long. For younger children, 45-minute sessions are often ideal, as they help maintain focus, engagement, and enjoyment throughout the lesson.
