Why does your beta reading cost more than others?
This gig is advertised as 'beta reading' because that's the term most writers are familiar with. However, a more accurate description would be editorial development. The process is more intensive, detailed, instructional, and solutions-based than standard beta reading.

Do you beta read full-length novels?
Absolutely! This beta reading gig is an opportunity to receive valuable feedback on your opening hook, and experience my editing input prior to investing in full development. If you wish to continue past this stage, I'll provide a special subsidized rate for your project and word count.
I need a custom order for beta reading.
If you have a specific word count, send me a message and I'll create a custom order for you. For orders over 10k words, I start the process with a shorter sample edit to ensure we're a good creative fit. Once we've determined I'm the right editor for your novel, we can schedule a larger job.
Can you beta read my screenplay, short story, or children's book?

How about beta reading for non-fiction works, like blogs or self-help?
The short answer is no, sorry! I develop narrative fiction and memoir (i.e. stories) for the commercial market. This excludes poetry, marketing copy, articles, and self-help. If you're unsure, send me a sample and I'll create a custom order, or refer you to an editor who's better suited.
I want to send an excerpt from mid-way through the novel.
Much of the work I do is structural, and it's difficult to assess the continuity, pace, and engagement of a scene when it's taken out of context. For that reason, I only accept prologues and opening chapters for this process.
What's the difference between beta reading, and your developmental editing gig?
Beta reading (or manuscript assessment) focuses on scene/chapter level issues. This is the best option for 90% of the WIPs submitted. My developmental editing gig tackles issues on a line and paragraph basis and is suited to drafts that have already gone through some form of structural development.
I've only written half of my first draft. Am I ready for beta reading?
Absolutely! As you finish your first draft, your story will change and evolve. Receiving developmental feedback on your opening chapters can reveal insights and opportunities that can help shape the story as a whole.
