About this gig

For projects that are already in progress, I will look at how your game is structured, and identify areas of improvement, or suggest ways to expand upon your structure.

By structure, I mean the kinds of assets, the way you have set up your objects, rooms and scenes, not just the code itself.

For the Basic and Standard packages, please note that this is an assessment. That means you may be paying for me to reinforce that you have already done things in a good way. We define good by:

  1. Efficient optimal project setup
  2. Using features in the best possible way for long-term maintenance and sequels
  3. Identifying problematic code patterns
  4. Suggesting improvements to code
  5. Suggesting changes to asset structure
  6. Suggesting other features of GameMaker that you may not have used
  7. Tips for improving longevity of the code base (future proofing)
  8. Tips for publishing to the Atari VCS

For the Premium package, I will be hands-on in helping you to restructure your game. Note that I cannot predict what size of game and what expectations you may have. Please contact me in advance so I can ask scope questions.

Please also note that I can only test on a PC build in newer versions of GameMaker Studio.

I am a silver-haired software expert with deep knowledge of legacy and modern code patterns. I first wrote BASIC at the age of 6 in 1983. Admittedly, that program was rather simple. That was 40 years ago, and not a week has passed that I haven't programmed computers. In 2005 I became a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a self-degree that focuses on human-computer interaction, computer science and video games, minored in art and authoring for electronic media. I also focused on creative writing, dramatic arts and worked through school doing web development while being a chef.
