I worked alongside Wolf Kroeger and some of South Africa’s leading art directors on the set design for the Starz television series Black Sails. I joined the team from day one, and over the course of the project we helped bring 38 episodes to life. One of the key transformations involved reworking the existing Labyrinth set, originally built to represent the 1200s, into a 1500s pirate homeland. The series went on to achieve an 8.2 rating on IMDb.

I had the opportunity to work on my first independent feature film, Cold Harbour, in the props department under production designer Darryl Hammer and art director Surisa Surisa. It was a very different experience from working on larger studio productions, with a much smaller budget but a great deal of creativity and resourcefulness. That environment allowed for more freedom, more hands-on problem-solving, and the satisfaction of seeing your work make a real impact on screen.

I began my journey in creative design on the 2012 television mini-series Labyrinth, a Ridley Scott production set in 1200s France. Working within the art department, headed by Tom Hannam and art directed by Jonathan Hely-Hutchinson, I started by crafting bows for the props department before joining the crew as a buyer in the set dressing department. It was during this time that I developed a strong eye for detail and gained valuable hands-on experience in the world of production design.
