This works even behind CGNAT or a carrier that blocks incoming connections, which is exactly the setup that breaks traditional VPNs and port-forward guides. Tailscale builds a private encrypted mesh between your devices, so only you can reach them.
Basic connects your host and your devices for private access from anywhere. Standard adds subnet routing and an exit node, so you reach your entire home network and can route your traffic home while traveling. Premium adds a Cloudflare Tunnel to publish one service on your own domain with SSL, plus server hardening and written documentation.

Will this work if my internet uses CGNAT?
Yes. Tailscale needs no inbound ports and works behind CGNAT or any carrier that blocks incoming connections. That is one of the main reasons this setup beats traditional VPNs and port forwarding.
Do I need a static IP or any special router settings?
No. There is no port forwarding, no static IP, and no router configuration required. Tailscale builds a private encrypted connection directly between your devices.
Is this secure? Is anything exposed to the internet?
Nothing is exposed publicly on the Basic and Standard tiers. Your devices form a private mesh that only you can reach. On Premium, if you choose to publish a service through Cloudflare Tunnel, only that one service is reachable, and it is protected by SSL.
What is the difference between the three tiers?
Basic gives you private access to your machines from anywhere. Standard adds full home network access and an exit node so you can route traffic home while traveling. Premium adds a public service on your own domain plus server hardening.
How many devices can I connect?
Basic covers your host plus up to 3 devices. You can add more with the extra devices option, and higher tiers or a quick chat can scope larger setups.
How do you access my system to set it up?
Through a secure remote session that you approve, such as Tailscale itself, AnyDesk, or a similar tool. You stay in control the whole time and can revoke access whenever you want.
What if I have trouble after delivery?
