About this Gig
Is your subtext doing the heavy lifting or are mechanical plot points crowding out the suspense? Is the dread earned organically on the page or are your reveals too overtly foreshadowed? Let's ensure your micro-tension is fully calibrated and your narrative execution carries the psychological depth, emotional weight and visceral grip your readers crave. Whether you've written a gritty procedural, a dark romance filled with power imbalances or a literary mystery rich with metaphor, I'll offer collaborative-style feedback, highlighting what's effective and identifying opportunities for refinement with a focus on examining how structural pressure and psychological layers hold the story together. I tailor my feedback to the specific sub-genre: interiority and atmospheric density for gothic and horror; dialogue and voice for hard-boiled; period verisimilitude for historical; moral ambiguity, sensory imagery and narrative payoff for noir; emotional calibration and intrigue for domestic or romantic suspense. Actionable feedback is provided via in-line comments and a report: friction, psychological and plot plausibility, narrative velocity, reader expectations and ending satisfaction.

FAQ
Do you have experience critiquing writing beyond Fiverr?
Yes, as an evaluator for a popular literary journal that publishes fiction across multiple genres I analyze submissions, working directly with the editorial team. In addition, I have assisted dozens of authors by providing comprehensive, constructive manuscript critique and line editing services.
Will your feedback be like what writers receive from literary journals or editors?
My feedback and suggestions will combine an engaged reader's perspective with the insight I've gained from professionally reviewing and critiquing literary journal submissions and collaborating with various editors while readying my own and other authors' work for publication.
What is your communication style and tone when providing feedback?
I strive to provide clear, professional, constructive feedback that supports your vision as the author. I like to collaborate by sharing insights, making suggestions and offering explanations that hone your style and strengthen your storytelling so that it impacts readers the way you intend.
Does the sample line edit only apply to the first 1000 words or can I choose?
Unless otherwise requested, I’ll provide the sample line edit on the first 1000 words (roughly 4 double-spaced pages). If you’d prefer a different section, feel free to specify (example: please apply the sample line edit to Chapter Fourteen, pages 92-96, the coffee shop action scene).
What documents do you work with? How do I upload my manuscript?
I work with DOC, DOCX and Google Docs. If sending a Google Doc, please download and attach your manuscript as a DOCX and specify that you prefer working in Google Docs so that I can use the correct program while completing the sample line edit. I cannot accept links at this time.
Do you use software or AI for the line editing sample?
No, all sample line edits are made by hand in order to maintain nuance, style, subtext, emotional depth and voice. I apply industry-standard editing techniques, using the Chicago Manual of Style and other trusted references. Additionally, I do not use AI while generating beta reader reports.
Do you beta read manuscripts longer than 90K?
Yes, I regularly read full-length novels. Packages are structured for clarity, and longer manuscripts are welcome - feel free to message me if your word count is above the listed range and I'll quote you a fair, proportional rate.
What if I'm not sure which sub-genre my story falls under?
That's common - especially in early or hybrid drafts. Just let me know if you'd like help determining which way your story leans. I can comment upon tropes, genre conventions, and reader expectations: noir vs hard-boiled, cozy vs traditional whodunit, domestic suspense vs psychological thriller.
What stage of manuscript do you usually work with?
I work with manuscripts at all stages, from first drafts to polished works nearing submission or publication, providing comprehensive feedback on multiple elements while focusing on what will help your story resonate most with readers.
Do you read genres other than mystery, thriller or crime?
Yes, I have experience reading and critiquing literary fiction, fantasy, Sci-Fi, YA, horror, and romance. Just message me and I'll create a custom offer focused on your specific genre and tailor my feedback accordingly.

Jessica went above and beyond my expectations! She was not only thorough she was thoughtful with all suggestions. She also found and noted missing punctuation. I was stunned at the quality for the quantity of work at such a low price. I will definitely be leaving a tip as she must have put in far more work than for what she charged. Amazing!
