In Website build there are many kind of task i try to explain some of them e.g.
Back-end Development
Back-end or admin side it is important part for website owner as all the data will handle here e.g. if it is shopping cart application, admin will create categories, products, offers and manage front end customers orders so basically it is part where admin or owner have full control of website.
Front-end Development
Front end is for customers or main viewers and in this part we fetch admin save data in database here customer will see categories, products and offers from admin and manage there dashboard and create orders and view status of there orders. 
Bug Fixes
Yes there can be issues/bugs and we will fix any bug in back-end or front-end.
Integrate API
There are number of types of API e.g.
Integration with API of

• 3rd parties website data
• Payment methods
• Shipping companies
• Synchronize with other websites like amazon, Ebay, Bol etc...
• Google Maps and other services

 Most API work with XML send/receive data or Json structure data etc...
I am working from 2000 i think in programming most important you can generate logic to give live customers ideas.
