As a Senior Data & AI Engineer at the Austrian Financial Market Authority, I worked on regulatory technology, data-driven supervision and AI solutions for the financial sector. My responsibilities included the design and development of production-ready backend services using Python, FastAPI, asynchronous programming, Pydantic and clean architecture principles. I contributed to regulatory projects involving large volumes of financial, supervisory and payment data, with a strong focus on scalability, maintainability, data quality and traceability. One key area of my work was the implementation of technical solutions for European regulatory initiatives, including services supporting the EBA Call for Advice and the new EU AML risk methodology. This involved translating complex regulatory requirements into transparent validation rules, risk indicators, scoring logic and reproducible processing workflows. I also developed and supported AI and machine-learning solutions, including a production RAG system for supervisory reports and ML services for payment transaction analysis using Databricks, PySpark, scikit-learn and XGBoost. In addition, I acted as a lead developer, performed code reviews and collaborated with technical and regulatory experts across national and European institutions. My work combined software engineering, data architecture, artificial intelligence and regulatory expertise to build reliable solutions for financial supervision.
