A tattoo is permanent. Make sure your kanji really says what you think it says.
I am a native Japanese calligrapher who has practiced shodo since age six. Before I write anything, I check your word for common problems:
- Wrong kanji from translation apps
- Chinese-only characters or simplified forms
- Word combinations that sound strange or funny to Japanese readers
- Modern and traditional forms (like 気 and 氣), and which one fits you
Then I brush your design by hand and deliver clean files your tattoo artist can use.

Native Japanese calligrapher. I have practiced shodo since age six and trained at a specialized calligraphy school in Japan. I write all five classical scripts: kaisho, gyosho, sosho, reisho and tensho.
Many kanji online are machine-translated or written by non-native speakers. One stroke can change the meaning. I check the meaning and nuance of every word, then brush it by hand.

How do you check my word?
As a native Japanese speaker, I check the meaning, the nuance, and whether the kanji are Japanese or Chinese-only forms. I also check how the whole word sounds to Japanese readers, not just each character.
Which style is best for a tattoo?
Kaisho and Reisho are the easiest to read, so they are the most popular for tattoos. Sosho and Tensho are beautiful but hard to read, even for Japanese people. I will recommend the best style for your word.
Can you check kanji I already have?
Yes. Please send me a message with the kanji or an image before ordering. I will tell you honestly if anything is wrong or unnatural, and suggest better options.
Will I get a stencil for my tattoo artist?
Every order includes a clean outline version along with the brush original. Your tattoo artist will use them to make the final stencil and confirm the size on your body.
What if my word sounds strange in Japanese?
I will tell you before I start writing. Some English phrases do not translate naturally into kanji, so I will suggest words that keep your meaning and read naturally to Japanese people.
