Whimsical Children's Illustrator
Happy Hippo Illustrations • Full-time
Jun 2024 - Dec 2025 • 1 yr 6 mos
Worked as a Whimsical Children’s Illustrator, I created imaginative and visually engaging illustrations for children’s storybooks. My work involved designing cute, expressive characters, illustrating vibrant story scenes, and developing cohesive visual styles that enhance storytelling and captivate young readers. I focused on translating story concepts into playful, colorful artwork while maintaining consistency, emotional expression, and child-friendly aesthetics. I produced full-page illustrations, double-spread scenes, spot illustrations, and book cover designs, delivering high-resolution, print-ready and digital files.

Maryam went above and beyond to get me my book covers when I needed them rushed and in a pinch for a moved up release date! She nailed it the first time without needing redirecting! Can not wait to work on many more projects with her

This honestly felt less like placing an order and more like sharing an idea with someone who just got it. The final illustration has such a gentle, dreamy mood, and the little details quietly pull you into the scene without trying too hard. Everything feels thoughtful and natural, and you can tell real...

It actually felt like you understood the scene without me over explaining it, the stillness, the soft glow, that quiet little moment before sleep… it’s all there. The illustration doesn’t just look nice, it feels right for the story. Really appreciate how naturally you captured that.

What I liked most about this illustration is how natural everything feels, even within a dreamy concept. The movement of the paper pieces is handled so lightly, and the color palette gives the whole scene a soft, almost nostalgic mood. It’s clear a lot of thought went into keeping the balance between simplicity and detail.

I wasn’t sure how this would translate visually because the feeling mattered more than the details, but you caught that part. There’s a kind of quiet pause in the final work that’s hard to fake, and you didn’t try to make it louder than it needed to be. It just sits there, the way the idea was supposed to. That meant a lot to me.
