FAQ
What is a data agent?
A data agent is an AI assistant connected to your business data. You ask a question in plain English ("What were last month's sales by region?"). It turns the question into a query, runs it on your data, and gives back the answer.
How does the Microsoft Fabric data agent work?
It sits on top of your lakehouse, warehouse, Power BI semantic model or KQL database. It uses your instructions and example queries to write SQL, DAX or KQL, then answers inside Fabric, Copilot or Teams.
Can a data agent connect to HubSpot, Business Central or my ERP?
Yes. I map each source, the best way to bring it in (mirroring, pipelines or shortcuts) and how it should be modelled so the agent gives correct answers.
How secure is it to give an AI agent access to my data?
It's safe when it's designed well. The agent should respect row-level security, workspace permissions and read-only access. A security review is included from the Standard package up.
What is "agent-ready" data?
It's data with clear table and column names, defined measures, clean relationships and documented business logic. Most wrong agent answers come from data that isn't ready, not from the AI model.
Can an AI agent replace my data analyst?
No. It takes over repetitive "what was X" questions, so your analysts can spend their time on deeper analysis.
