Why is my SQL query slow?
Common causes are missing or unused indexes, outdated statistics, reading far more rows than needed, functions on columns, parameter sniffing and blocking. The execution plan shows which one applies to your query.
Can you speed up slow stored procedures in SQL Server?
Yes. I check the execution plan, parameter sniffing, indexes, statistics and temp table use, then rewrite what is slow and measure the result before and after.
Do you also work with PostgreSQL and MySQL?
Yes. For PostgreSQL I use EXPLAIN ANALYZE and for MySQL I use EXPLAIN to find the bottleneck, then fix the query, indexes or settings that cause it.
What do you need from me to start?
The slow query or procedure, table and index definitions, the execution plan or EXPLAIN output, rough row counts, and your database type and version. Masked data is fine.
Will you change my production database?
Not without your approval. I prefer a copy or read-only access, and I deliver index and maintenance changes as scripts you can review and run yourself.
How much faster will my query be?
It depends. Some queries improve a lot, others only a little if data volume is the limit. I measure before and after, and I tell you honestly what is achievable before any larger work.
Can you fix deadlocks and blocking?
Yes. I identify the queries and the lock order involved, then fix them through query changes, indexing or shorter transactions, and confirm the deadlocks stop.
Do you tune the whole database or just single queries?
Both. The Basic package fixes one query. Standard and Premium also review your top slow queries, indexes, statistics and routine maintenance.
Can you help with Azure SQL or AWS RDS?
Yes, I tune queries on Azure SQL and AWS RDS too. A full move to the cloud is a separate project, so message me if you need that.
Do you sign an NDA?
Yes. I can sign an NDA before you share any schema or query, and masked or non-production data is fine.
