About this Gig
Finding out your child is Deaf or hard of hearing can feel overwhelming. You might be making medical decisions, dealing with feelings of confusion and shock, and researching your options.
Well, there is one thing you can do right away, that will help you, help your child, and put you in control. Start learning to sign! In our first lesson, I'll teach you basic, linguistically accurate, visual language skills you can use immediately to engage with your child.
In more than 35 years of experience, I have never met a parent who regrets learning ASL! But sadly, I have met many, many Deaf people and parents who look back and wish they had started sooner.
Parents who learn ASL report closer relationships with their Deaf or hard of hearing children, and the children can reach age-appropriate milestones for social, emotional and language competence.
I have a Masters Degree in the Linguistics of Signed Languages from Gallaudet University. I focused my research on child language acquisition, and I raised three Deaf children.
Seeing your child produce their first signs is every bit as magical as hearing their first words. Let's start this journey together.

FAQ
Do you work with parents who are choosing a Cochlear Implant for their children?
I work with parents of all Deaf or hard of hearing children, no matter the technology they select.
Can you help me get connected to local resources?
I will help you know what questions to ask and to research available resources in your community. Unfortunately, some areas have fewer resources than others.
Do you work with parents outside of the USA?
There are different sign languages used all over the world. Wherever you are, I encourage you to learn the sign language that is used by Deaf people in your community. I am only able to teach American Sign Language (ASL), and help parents make connections with members of the US Deaf Community.
