My other editing gigs on Fiverr have been very successful, but I want to focus on what I'm passionate about and best at: editing books. 

AI has changed the way writers approach editing: it can edit words, but a literary editor shapes stories. AI can correct spelling, improve grammar, tighten sentences, and highlight repetitive language. For many authors, it's an excellent first step in refining a manuscript.

But great writing demands more than technical accuracy.

A skilled literary editor looks beyond the words on the page to understand the story behind them. They recognize when a character's voice rings false, when pacing begins to falter, or when an emotional moment fails to connect with the reader. They know when breaking a grammatical rule strengthens the narrative and when preserving an author's unique style matters more than perfect prose.

It cannot truly appreciate nuance, intent, or the emotional resonance that makes a book memorable. It doesn't understand subtle humor, irony, or the delicate balance between showing and telling in the way an experienced editor does.

Technology is a valuable tool, but it cannot replace the keen eye of a seasoned editor.
