About this Gig
I absolutely love being able to help writers craft the story they want to tell and make it the best it can be! After you finish writing your story, you're just too close to really see it. I'll be your second pair of eyes to see your manuscript as it is. I'll find what worked and what didn't so you know where to go next.
Working as an acquisitions editor for 5 years, I know just what kinds of things publishers are looking at when they review your manuscript. I've been writing stories for over 15 years, so I know how to speak your language. I'm also just an absolute book worm who can relate to your story purely as a reader. So I'm able to review your manuscript from the perspective of a publisher, a writer, and a reader.

Do you review excerpts with explicit scenes?
No. A good rule of thumb is, if this were a movie, would it be PG-13 or would it be R-rated? If you're not quite sure, feel free to message me!
What genres do you beta read?
Sci-fi/fantasy are my core genres, of any sub-genre and for any age group. But I enjoy a wide range of genres so go ahead and send it my way!
What's your editing experience?
I worked for 5 years as an acquisitions editor for 4RV Publishing and have freelanced since for several publications. I also served for 3 years as the president of the Writers Guild, editing and helping to form budding writers.
What's your experience as a writer?
I published my first novel at age 12, and most recently published a collection of short stories that placed "Finalist" and "Honorable Mention" in the Writers of the Future Contest.
Do you read the same manuscript twice?
Absolutely! It can be beneficial to send your revised manuscript to someone who's already familiar with your story. Send me a message and I can offer you a discount.
What format do you need the manuscript in?
I can work with Word docs, google docs, or PDFs.
What is included in your reader report?
My reports are typically 5-10 pages, depending on the length of the manuscript. After a broad overview of the work as a whole, I'll break it down in the main categories: characters, plot, world building, etc. There will be positives in there as well! Knowing what you did right is just as important.
Do you use AI at all?
Absolutely not. Like many creatives, I hate AI. :) I do this because I love it. I ain't giving it to the machines to do it for me.
