FAQ
Do you calculate cut and fill from contours?
Yes. From existing and proposed contours or spot elevations I calculate cut, fill, net movement, swell and shrinkage, topsoil strip and replace, and the truck loads needed to import or export the balance.
Can you format the takeoff as DOT bid items?
Yes. Send the bid schedule or item list from the tender documents and I will deliver quantities against those exact item numbers and units, which is what public agency submissions require.
What is the difference between this and your concrete gig?
This gig is horizontal work, everything outside the building: paving, grading, drainage and utilities. The concrete gig covers the structure itself: footings, slabs, walls and rebar. Many contractors order both for one project.
Do you include trench and backfill?
Yes. Trench excavation volume by depth and width, bedding stone, pipe zone, select backfill, compaction and surface restoration are all measured per run, not lumped into a pipe unit rate.
Can you work from a scanned or photographed plan?
Yes, if a scale bar or a known dimension is visible. Aerial imagery also works for maintenance, overlay and resurfacing bids where no civil plan set exists.
Do you handle subdivisions and multi-lot developments?
Yes. Roads, utilities, lot grading and stormwater for subdivisions are within scope. For sites over 10 acres send me the plans and I will quote a custom offer with a fixed price and date.
Which drawings do you need?
Civil plan set: grading plan, paving plan, utility plan, storm and sanitary profiles, erosion control plan and details. The geotechnical report helps if unsuitable soils or rock are a risk.
Do you estimate equipment hours?
Yes, in Standard and Premium. Excavator, dozer, loader, roller and truck hours are estimated by production rate and volume, priced at your own rates or regional ownership and operating costs.
