In Ireland you must register for VAT if your annual turnover exceeds (or is expected to exceed) €85,000 (if you sell goods) or €42,500 (if you provide a service).
What is ROS?
Revenue Online Service (ROS) is the Irish Revenue's online system for businesses and self-employed people. It is the professional equivalent of the MyAccount system used by employees.

This varies depending on the business but most businesses file their VAT bi-monthly, so every 2 months. Quarterly, semi-annual and annual VAT returns apply to certain businesses, but are less common.
How is a VAT liability calculated?
Your VAT liability is calculated by working out your Output VAT (VAT on your sales) and deducting any Input VAT (VAT on your purchases).
How is input VAT caculated?
Input VAT is calculated based on your purchase invoices. Delivery notes or proof of payment cannot be used. It must be a valid VAT invoice.
How is output VAT calculated?
Output VAT is calculated based on your sales invoices or your sales receipts, depending on the basis you are taxed on. By default, VAT is calculated on your sales invoices, regardless of whether you have been paid. You can opt to choose the cash receipts basis instead.
