Since 2015, the photo editing experience has undergone a remarkable transformation, driven by rapid advancements in technology, artificial intelligence, and the widespread use of smartphones. What was once a skill reserved mainly for professionals using complex desktop software has become an everyday activity accessible to almost anyone with a mobile device. Around 2015, photo editing was already popular, but it often required software like Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom on a computer. These tools were powerful but also complicated, requiring time and practice to master. At the same time, mobile apps such as Instagram were introducing basic filters, allowing users to enhance their photos quickly. These filters simplified editing by offering one-tap solutions, making it easier for casual users to improve brightness, contrast, and color tones without deep technical knowledge. As smartphones became more advanced, their cameras improved significantly, reducing the need for heavy editing. However, editing tools also evolved alongside them. Between 2016 and 2019, mobile editing apps like Snapseed, VSCO, and PicsArt gained popularity. These apps provided more control, including selective editing, healing tools, and advanced color grading. Users could now perform edits on their phones that were once only possible on professional software. This period marked a shift where mobile editing started rivaling desktop editing in many everyday scenarios. The real revolution began with the integration of artificial intelligence. From around 2020 onward, AI-powered tools changed the editing experience completely. Features like automatic background removal, object detection, and facial enhancement became common. Instead of manually adjusting every detail, users could rely on AI to suggest improvements or apply them instantly. For example, portrait mode enhancements, skin smoothing, and lighting corrections became automated, saving time while producing high-quality results.
