I set up Ubuntu and Debian servers so they are safe to put online: no root login, no password brute force, only the ports you actually need.

WHAT I DO

Create a sudo user with SSH key login, then disable root and password login.

Configure the UFW firewall to allow only the ports your apps need.

Run a full system update and set hostname, timezone and swap.

Standard adds fail2ban, Nginx reverse proxy and free Let's Encrypt SSL for your domain.

Premium adds Docker, unattended security upgrades, a daily backup cron job and basic monitoring.

HOW IT WORKS

You send me the server IP and temporary access. I do the work and send back a short report: what changed, your new login command and where the config files are. Everything is documented so you can repeat it yourself later.

I run my own servers and blockchain nodes every day, so this is the same checklist I use on my own machines.
