About this Gig
I have a Master of Fine Arts in Writing Popular Fiction and over five years' experience as a professional copy editor. I specialize in editing genre fiction and have worked as a first reader for an online speculative fiction magazine. As both a creative writer and an experienced editor, I have an inside understanding of what makes a story work and what makes it sell.
I provide three levels of editing:
- Basic - Proofreading: for when spellcheck thinks it's fine that your character is wearing a "green shit."
- Standard - Copyediting: for when you wish there was a more creative way to say "green shirt."
- Premium - Critique: for when your story world shouldn't even have shirts (or the color green).
You'll receive:
- Basic - My track changes on your document with edits to spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Standard - My line comments on your document with suggestions for word choice, sentence structure, and paragraph organization.
- Premium - My line comments on your document plus my written summary with suggestions to improve overall story structure, world-building, and impact.

FAQ
Will you write/rewrite my story for me?
In my Standard and Premium packages, I provide suggestions for how you can improve your work, but I do not write or rewrite your work. It's your story! I'm just here to help you tell it.
Will you edit AI-generated content?
No. AI models draw from copyrighted works accessed without their authors' consent. AI-generated fiction amounts to plagiarism. Please do not submit AI-generated work.
Do you also edit literary fiction, or just genre fiction?
Yes, I love literary fiction! I read all types of literature (and believe that the siloing of "literary" vs "genre" fiction is a false dichotomy... but that's another conversation).
What is included if I add a revision to my Basic order?
For the Basic package, I will provide a second round of proofreading after you make my initial suggested changes. This helps ensure that nothing falls through the cracks.
What is included if I add a revision to my Standard order?
For the Standard package, I will provide a round of proofreading after you make my initial suggested changes. This ensures that any edits you make are free of errors. If necessary, I will also make additional copyediting suggestions that may arise between rounds.
What is included if I add a revision to my Premium order?
For the Premium package, I will provide either a second round of critique or a round of copyedits, depending on your preference and the shape the story is in.
Does the critique package also include copyediting and proofreading?
Not generally. Because the critique may lead to substantial rewrites, I don't usually suggest copyedits to sentences that may get deleted entirely. I will correct typos and fix punctuation.
