I am Simon Méhat, a French mechanical and wood engineer.

What software will be used?
I use FreeCAD to create your industrial designs. FreeCAD is a powerful and open-source software, offering great flexibility and a robust set of tools for precise and professional designs.
What elements are needed?
To start your project, a detailed sketch of what you want to create would be helpful but not essential. You can also include additional details such as the intended use of the part or information about its manufacturing. Photos can also be useful to better understand your needs.
Which file formats should I request?
For 3D printing, the.STL format is most suitable. If you want to integrate the file into a 3D design or create plans, the STEP or IGES formats are recommended. You can also request the source files as an option, which will allow you to modify them later if necessary.
How to open the files?
You can open the files with FreeCAD, which is free and easy to use. In addition to FreeCAD, there are other free 3D file viewers such as MeshLab and Autodesk Fusion 360 (personal version). For 3D printing, you can use Cura, a free and very popular software to prepare your files for printing.
What if I want to modify the 3D model?
If you want to modify the 3D model, I recommend requesting the source files as an option. With these source files, you can use FreeCAD to make your modifications. FreeCAD is open-source and free software that allows great flexibility in editing 3D models.
