Do you test renewals, or just the first payment?
I test the full cycle: first payment, renewal, failed payment retry, and cancellation. Most subscription problems only show up at renewal, which is 30 days after a seller has already been paid and moved on.
Can customers upgrade or downgrade their plan?
Yes, with prorated billing so they are charged fairly for the switch.
What happens when a card fails?
Automatic retries on a schedule, plus dunning emails prompting the customer to update their card. Without this you silently lose subscribers every month.
Can I offer free trials?
Yes - free trials, paid trials, and sign-up fees are all supported.
Do I need WooCommerce, or is a membership plugin better?
If you already sell products, WooCommerce Subscriptions keeps everything in one place. If you are only selling access to content, MemberPress is usually simpler and cheaper. I will tell you which one your case actually needs.
