Roman rule brought roads, cities, and Christianity, shaping much of Sardinias early culture.

During the Middle Ages, Sardinia was divided into independent kingdoms called giudicati before falling under the influence of Pisa, Genoa, and later the Crown of Aragon. Spanish rule left a lasting impact on the islands language, architecture, and traditions. In the 18th century, Sardinia became part of the Kingdom of Savoy, eventually contributing to the unification of Italy in the 19th century.
