By all means! Well programmed midi drums are always a better option in this genre than budget recorded live drums. Make sure you provide a full TXT document in your files of the software you used to programme them and a drum map for every key (What note = What Drum / Cymbal).

Absolutely feel free. Midi bass is a great alternative in this genre and is often preferable. I have many great bass libraries that sound ultra realistic such as DjinnBass and Impact Studios Nuclear Bass.

Unless you are INSANELY tight, Modern Metal requires inhuman level of precision when it comes to timing (and that is part of the characteristic of the genre). I definitely suggest selecting editing on your tracks to ensure the optimal results.
