The key areas are as follows:

1. STRUCTURE & PLOT

Three-Act Arc (or overall shape): Editing for a clear beginning, inciting incident, rising action, climax, and resolution.

Plot Holes and Logic: Identifying gaps in the timeline, contradictory events, or problems with cause-and-effect.

Subplots: Evaluating how well secondary storylines weave into or distract from the main plot.

The Conflict Hook: Ensuring the protagonist faces meaningful external and internal obstacles that keep the reader hooked till the end of the book.

2. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

Arcs and Growth: Tracking whether main characters undergo a realistic transformation, moving from a flawed "want" to an emotional "need".

Motivation: Making sure characters' choices and reactions make sense for their background and personality.

Cast and Voices: Distinguishing dialogue so characters sound unique, and cutting unnecessary or confusing secondary characters. 

3. PACING & SCENE FLOW

Dragging vs. Rushing: Spotting areas where the narrative lingers too long or skips ahead too fast.
