I'm gonna code or convert your C# script to a Shader or Compute Shader that will run on the GPU, it's very fast and optimized and can be used for things like:
Particle Systems, Texture Manipulations, Raymarching, Raytracing, Point Clouds and much more.
Both for 2D and 3D Unity.

Is the compute shader fast?
You will be able to simulate 2 million particles calculating physics and interacting with each other with a intermediate GPU and still get ~250 FPS
What engine is this applicable for?
Unity, although if you're experienced with Unreal, you can find a way to use it there. (I don't provide support to port to Unreal)
What can you do with a compute shader?
Anything that doesn't relies on sequential algorithms.
